Synopsis for: - This Is It

A novel about justice, vengeance and facing up to the past.

Marshall Mason is the Knight – a shadowy vigilante who prowls the streets of Tupello fighting brutal criminals with violence of his own. However, there’s a serious problem: Marshall lost a year while fighting in Iraq. A whole year of things he doesn’t know he did. He feels guilty enough about what he does remember.

Then there’s Shahina, the mysterious young Iraqi woman who turns up one day and instantly entangles herself with every key player in the city. Her tense first encounter with the Knight leaves a lasting impression on him as she points out the consequences of his rough justice. Despite her criticism, there is an obvious connection between them.

An old adversary from Marshall’s teenage gang days reappears as a major new threat known only as the Reaper. His presence forces the Knight to utilise methods he feels uncomfortable using. In the aftermath of their explosive encounters, the city - for so long divided - unites in their condemnation of the vigilante. The Knight appears to gain a powerful new enemy in the shape of billionaire Alan Greenburg. Mayor Lee organises a manhunt, which signals the temporary retirement of Marshall’s alter-ego.

Crime rises to record heights in his absence, while Marshall sinks into a drunken depression. Shahina convinces him his services are needed again – as a more efficient, less violent Knight. After an initially successful return, disaster strikes as the vigilante leaves a man fighting for his life but has no memory of how it happened.

Searching for the truth, he attempts to find out if this blackout has anything to do with the mysteries of Iraq and his subsequent memory loss. Shocking discoveries lead Marshall to fear a conspiracy against him. But he can’t work out who is orchestrating events – could it be Greenburg? Or is it a figure from Marshall’s military past, a man known only as the General? Maybe, just maybe, someone closer to home?

Thinking of retiring once more, Shahina persuades him to continue, as the Mayor’s life is in imminent danger. What occurs when the Knight tries to save his life has a shattering impact on everyone involved.

After months in jail surrounded by the vindictive criminals he helped imprison, there is a final showdown between Marshall and Shahina, from which there is only one survivor.
